Religious Society of Friends · Southampton, Pennsylvania

Southampton Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends.

We are a small but passionate group of Quakers meeting in Southampton, Pennsylvania. Together we gather in silent, expectant worship — in person and online — for about an hour at 10:00 AM each and every Sunday.

All are welcome. Come as you are.

Sunday Worship

What to expect on a First Day morning.

Quaker worship in the unprogrammed tradition is rooted in silence. There is no minister or sermon. Instead, we sit together in stillness, waiting on the Spirit — what early Friends called the Inner Light, the Living God, the Guide. From that silence, anyone present may feel moved to share a brief spoken message. Most worship hours are quiet throughout.

Worship lasts about one hour and ends when one of the Friends shakes the hand of a neighbor. Afterwards we share announcements, greetings, and time together.

When

Every Sunday (First Day) at 10:00 AM, year-round. Worship is offered in person at the meetinghouse and concurrently online for Friends who cannot travel.

About the Meeting

A small meeting with deep roots.

Southampton Friends Meeting began in 1941, when Friends gathered informally in one another’s homes. A monthly meeting was officially established in 1947, first using an old school building — later used as a tap room — before settling into our current home.

The present meetinghouse, built in 1969, is the most modern of Quaker meetinghouses in the area. A large picture window opens onto the woods, drawing the quiet of the trees into the worship room.

“A community of faith based on experience of a transforming power named many ways: the Inner Light, the Spirit of Christ, the Guide, the Living God.”
Philadelphia Yearly Meeting

Southampton is part of Bucks Quarterly Meeting and Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, the oldest yearly meeting of Friends in the Americas.
